Vilka Seita Sofa in Lacquered Pine, 1970s

The Seita sofa was produced by Vilka in Finland during the 1970s. Its low, generous profile combines a warm lacquered pine frame with softly buttoned cushions upholstered in a beige and brown striped fabric. The contrast between the clearly expressed wooden structure and the soft, inviting upholstery gives the sofa a distinctive character that feels both substantial and relaxed.

The frame is defined by broad pine side supports, rounded wooden armrests and long horizontal rails that emphasise the sofa’s width. Its open construction allows the individual elements to remain clearly visible, giving the piece an architectural quality without making it appear heavy. The gently rounded armrests extend beyond the upright supports and introduce a softer detail to the otherwise geometric frame.

The rear construction is an especially notable feature of the Seita model. Three shaped wooden back panels are positioned within the surrounding pine frame, creating a practical support for the loose back cushions while also giving the sofa an attractive appearance from behind. This considered rear view allows the piece to work well away from a wall, where its wooden construction can remain visible as part of the interior.

The three-seat format provides generous seating, while the low seat height and slightly reclined back create a comfortable and informal posture. Separate seat and back cushions soften the strong horizontal lines of the frame. The upholstery has a subtle diagonal stripe in warm beige and brown tones, complementing the honey-coloured pine without competing with its natural grain.
