About the designer
Charles & Ray Eames
Charles and Ray Eames worked across furniture, architecture, film, photography and exhibition design. Their furniture developed through repeated experiments with materials and production: moulded plywood, fibreglass, aluminium and upholstery were used to make seating that could be comfortable, durable and produced consistently. The Eames Office’s approach joined technical development with close attention to everyday use.
Manufacturer and market are important when identifying an Eames piece. Herman Miller began producing the couple’s furniture in the United States, while Vitra has manufactured authorised Eames designs for Europe and the Middle East since its 1957 licence agreement. Vintage examples may also carry period labels from regional manufacturers or distributors. A product’s maker, label, base, shell, upholstery and production details should therefore be considered together.
This collection can include office and conference seating from the Aluminium Group, moulded plywood chairs, lounge seating and related designs. Condition differs by material: aluminium develops surface wear, leather softens, plywood edges can show use and upholstery may have been renewed. Pino describes the known condition and manufacturer of each available example rather than applying one generic grade to the full collection.
Browse the current pieces above and use the Pino Archive to compare earlier examples. If you are looking for a particular Eames model, manufacturer, base or upholstery, send a sourcing request. See Shipping for delivery details and Material Care for preservation guidance.
The couple’s designs were conceived as systems rather than isolated silhouettes. Shell, base and upholstery combinations could change while the underlying model family remained recognisable. For buyers, that makes the complete specification and the identity of the manufacturer more informative than appearance alone.
