Johan Bertil Häggström Borkum 3-Seater Sofa for IKEA, 1970s

The Borkum three-seater sofa was designed by Johan Bertil Häggström for IKEA during the 1970s. With its low profile, generous proportions and exposed tubular frame, the design captures the relaxed and expressive character of Scandinavian furniture from the period. The sofa features deeply button-tufted brown leather upholstery supported by a sculptural chrome-plated steel frame.

The rounded frame continues around the sides and beneath the seat, giving the substantial sofa a surprisingly light and open appearance. The rich brown leather has developed natural creasing, tonal variation and a beautiful patina over time.
