Alvar Aalto Chair 62 for Artek, Red Upholstery

Alvar Aalto designed Chair 62 for Artek during the 1930s. This vintage example combines a warm birch frame with deep red fabric upholstery on the seat and broad backrest.

The model is an early expression of Aalto’s experiments with bent birch and upholstered seating. Its compact silhouette and softly curved construction anticipate the practical, human-centred approach that became central to his furniture for Artek.

The rich red textile creates a strong contrast with the naturally aged birch and gives the chair a particularly warm presence. Its balanced proportions make it suitable around a dining table, at a desk or as an individual accent chair.
