Ilmari Lappalainen Pulkka Armchair in Black Leather for Asko

Designed by Ilmari Lappalainen in the late 1960s, the Pulkka armchair is one of the most distinctive examples of Finnish modernist lounge furniture. Its name refers to a traditional Finnish sled, reflected in the chair’s low profile and elegantly curved aluminium frame. This example features soft black leather upholstery combined with a brushed aluminium structure and leather-covered armrests.

The generously padded seat and segmented backrest provide excellent comfort, while the adjustable construction allows the sitting angle to be set in three different positions. Produced by Asko Export, the Pulkka combines sculptural design with a relaxed and highly functional form. Measurements: Width 75 cm; Depth 90 cm; Height 76 cm.

The chair’s scale and clear profile allow it to work naturally as an individual seating piece in both contemporary and vintage interiors.
