Alvar Aalto “Hand Grenade” Pendant Light by Itsu, 1950's, Finland (Made to Order exclusive)

A rare and highly collectible edition of Alvar Aalto’s iconic Hand Grenade pendant, originally designed in 1952. This exceptional example was produced by Itsu on special commission for the University of Technology in Otaniemi, giving it distinguished provenance directly tied to Aalto’s landmark campus project.

Itsu’s interpretation is particularly notable for its unique constructional adjustments, including a wider frame and a reimagined perforated lower rim. Crafted in white-painted metal with elegant brass detailing, the pendant’s bold cylindrical form embodies both functional clarity and refined design. The perforated brass rim diffuses light with a soft, atmospheric glow, highlighting Aalto’s genius for combining technical precision with architectural beauty.

The lamp works as both a functional light source and a sculptural element, with its materials and proportions remaining visible from several angles.
