Alvar Aalto Chair 69 “Sandwich” Chairs for Artek - 1930's

Designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek, Chair 69 remains one of the most recognizable Finnish chair designs of the 20th century. This set represents an early and more sought after variation often referred to by collectors as the “Sandwich” version, identifiable by its layered plywood construction and earlier production details.

The chairs feature a warm natural birch finish with strong visible patina throughout, giving the set the worn character and surface variation expected from authentic early Artek pieces. Their simple construction and compact proportions make them versatile as dining chairs, café seating or studio chairs while still carrying the distinct look of early Finnish modernism.

The chair’s scale and clear profile allow it to work naturally as an individual seating piece in both contemporary and vintage interiors.

This set is in heavily used vintage condition with noticeable wear, scratches, marks and patina throughout consistent with age and long-term use.
