Kyo-yaki Chawan with Hand-Painted Chrysanthemum (with Tomobako)
Kyo-yaki Chawan with Hand-Painted Chrysanthemum (with Tomobako)
A finely crafted Kyo-yaki (Kyoto ware) tea bowl, decorated with a white chrysanthemum (kiku) motif on a warm yellow ground. The detailed brushwork, soft glaze, and golden tones reflect the elegance of Kyoto ceramics, known for their painterly surfaces and refined expression. The chrysanthemum is a symbol of longevity and rejuvenation in Japanese culture, long associated with the Imperial family.
This combination of motif and Kyoto craftsmanship makes the bowl both functional in the tea ceremony and collectible as an art object. The chawan comes with its original tomobako (signed paulownia wood storage box), which preserves the piece and affirms its authenticity. A potter’s seal is stamped on the foot.
Its proportions, material character and surface details allow the piece to sit comfortably in both contemporary and vintage interiors.
Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. Please review all images for details.
