About the designer
Alvar Aalto
Alvar Aalto approached furniture as part of a wider architectural practice. His experiments with bending Finnish birch made it possible to create light, resilient forms without relying on the visual language of tubular steel. That work became central to Artek, founded in Helsinki in 1935, and it continues to shape how Finnish modernism is understood and used.
The Aalto collection includes different types of seating, stools, tables, benches and storage. Familiar model numbers matter: Stool 60, Chair 66, Chair 69 and the many Aalto table formats each have their own construction, proportions and production history. Finish, seat material, labels and signs of earlier use can also distinguish one vintage example from another. Pino evaluates every piece individually and describes known restoration or alterations when relevant.
Vintage Aalto furniture was made for daily life, so age often appears as softened lacquer, marks, colour variation or repairs. These details are not automatically defects; they form part of the object’s history. We look for sound construction, recognisable model details and a condition that makes sense for the piece. If additional measurements, labels or close-up photographs would help, contact us before purchasing.
Browse the current pieces above, compare past examples in the Pino Archive, or read our permanent guide to Alvar Aalto’s Chair 66. If a particular model, finish or quantity is not available, you can also start a sourcing request.
Artek’s continuing production helps identify the intended structure of core Aalto models, but vintage pieces still need individual assessment. Production stamps, older labels, joinery and material combinations can help place an example in context without turning normal variation into a false promise of an exact date.

Yes. Pino Interiors only acquires and sells pieces that we have established to be authentic. If we are not confident about a piece’s authenticity, we do not offer it for sale.
Can I request more information about a piece?
Yes. Send us the product link and tell us which details you would like to inspect. We can provide additional photographs, measurements or video when needed.
Can Pino source another piece by this designer?
Possibly. Send us the designer, model and your preferred materials, colour, quantity and delivery location. Vintage availability varies, so timing cannot be guaranteed.
