About the designer
Yrjö Kukkapuro
Yrjö Kukkapuro built a long career around the chair: how the body meets it, how its structure carries weight and how new materials can improve comfort. His work moves between sculptural lounge furniture, public seating and task chairs, yet ergonomics remains a consistent thread. Studio Kukkapuro describes a career spanning more than six decades, with work represented in major international museum collections.
Kukkapuro’s furniture was produced in different periods by manufacturers including Haimi and Avarte. Early moulded forms, exposed metal structures, laminated wood and upholstered components all appear across his catalogue. Models such as Karuselli, Ateljee, Remmi and Experiment therefore require model-specific reading rather than a single general condition standard. Manufacturer markings, upholstery, bases and later restoration can vary between examples.
Pino selects each Kukkapuro piece for its identifiable design, construction and practical condition. Original surfaces and period upholstery may show use; restored examples may have renewed foam, leather or fabric. Product pages state the information available for the individual piece, and we can provide further photographs, measurements or video when required.
Explore the active pieces above, review previously sourced work in the Pino Archive, or visit our permanent Karuselli chair guide. For a specific model, colour, material or set size, send those details through our sourcing request.
Kukkapuro’s catalogue also changed as material conditions changed. Fibreglass and plastic shaped early sculptural seating, while metal tube and laminated wood became important in later work. Reading those shifts helps connect an individual chair to the larger development of his long practice.
Questions
Buying vintage design
Are all Pino Interiors pieces authentic?
Yes. Pino Interiors only acquires and sells pieces that we have established to be authentic. If we are not confident about a piece’s authenticity, we do not offer it for sale.
Can I request more information about a piece?
Yes. Send us the product link and tell us which details you would like to inspect. We can provide additional photographs, measurements or video when needed.
Can Pino source another piece by this designer?
Possibly. Send us the designer, model and your preferred materials, colour, quantity and delivery location. Vintage availability varies, so timing cannot be guaranteed.
